TGIF! I hope everyone has had an excellent week, and is looking forward to the weekend! It's my birthday on Sunday, so make sure you have an extra-awesome time for me! There're few things to talk about, so let's take a look! Player Bans FB: 8 MS: 32 As always, we are committed to keeping our games fun and fair for everyone, and will continue to ensure that players are playing fairly and within our Terms of Use by swinging the banhammer where it needs to be swung. There's been some confusion in the past about these numbers, so let me clarify. The above numbers are the number of accounts we have permanently frozen for violations of our Terms of Use. We also do temporary freezes for less severe violations, although these aren't included above. It's also worth mentioning that frozen accounts do currently still show up in the game, which has caused some confusion as well as the sentiment that we don't freeze accounts. We're looking into ways to alleviate this sentiment, as we genuinely spend quite a bit of time enforcing our Terms of Use to keep the games fun and fair for everyone. Quarterly Newsletter #2! Back by incredibly popular demand, our second ever Quarterly Newsletter was released this week! There were a few snags with it's release, but most players should have gotten it now. If you haven't, please check your spam/junk folder. If you signed up for the newsletter and still haven't received it, send us a message through Support and we'll look into it for you. For future newsletters, you can increase the probability of it reaching your actual inbox by putting noreply@kanoapps.com in your safe senders list. There's also a short survey about the forums in the newsletter, so if you're itching to give us some anonymous feedback about your forum experience, go for it! Facebook Offsite Game Policy Change Facebook recently announced a change to their policy regarding offsite versions of games on Facebook that will take effect December 5th, 2012. You can read more about it here. Community Stories Have you met someone in game that you're now best friends with? Have you done something really important because of some advice another player gave you? Have any other awesome/inspiring/cool stories about an interaction you had with another player through the game? We occasionally here through Support about players meeting their significant others through the game, or about how they've made lasting friendships, or other awesome stuff, but we've never been able to share it because Support requests are private and we value your privacy. That being said, we do want to share some of the awesome stories we know are out there, so if you have any you'd like to share with the community, please email me at community@kanoapps.com with the title "Community Stories". Stories can by anonymous, but if you'd like to say who you are in game, please mention your game name and what game you play. I'll pick one each week to share in my TGIF post, and I look forward to being able to share these awesome stories with you all! So start sending! Community Volunteer Team We are always looking to expand the awesomeness of our Community, and to do that we need to expand our Community Volunteer team! We currently have two types of Community Volunteers, Game Gurus and Moderators. Moderators help the community by helping keep the forums civil and respectful, as well as on-topic, spam-free, and within the forum code of conduct. Being skilled and experienced players, Moderators also help in the community by answering questions and acting as liaisons between the community and Kano. This position is quite the commitment, as we expect our moderators to be able to volunteer at least a few hours a day (although some do much more than that.) Game Gurus are skilled and experienced players looking to share their knowledge with the community, with a particular focus on newer players. Gurus are expected to watch the Guru threads for questions, as well as answering questions elsewhere in the forums, although they don't have the forum powers or responsibilities of Moderators. If you're interested in either position, email us at community@kanoapps.com for more information! Support Report Unfortunately, I didn't bug Melanie in time to get a message from her. On her behalf, I would like to remind you all to be nicer to eachother, and us. Being nice is awesome. On that note, look at this picture I found for you! Joke of the week! Back by popular demand, it's time for the joke of the week! More accurately, back by one player reminding me about Joke of the week, but close enough! This week, a pun: I don't understand insomnia. Sleeping is so easy I could do it with my eyes closed! Click here for the appropriate sound effect. Well, that's it for this week. Have a great weekend, and be especially nice to eachother on Sunday (or as I like to call it, DanDay.) Play Now! Wouldn't it be possible to simply remove names from banned accounts in order to avoid the confusion on who's been banned and who hasn't?
Thanks for the birthday wishes Gene! @TBE That is one of the possibilities we're considering, although there are a number we're looking at.
Happy Birthday Dan. I'm aware that KANO does not like to reveal who has been banned - but as there is no legal precedent to privacy, and maybe releasing the ID's of the banned people would be some type of warning for anyone who wants to break KANO rules in the future? And what were these 32 MS and 8 FB people banned for?
Accounts that are banned or frozen have violated the TOS in some way, as it stands now Kano will not say to the public what violations have occurred.
I dont have a problem with revealing names of players that are permanently banned other than ...What if...what if a player at some point proves his innocence and is reinstated? A few years back when i was going for my 10k survival streak Kanos new software at the time froze me for 4 minutes for what it deemed as suspicious behavior. Kano went on to publicly announce here in the forums that my by being frozen was an accident (classy move)caused by a glitch in their new software......but none the less the damage was done and my rivals were splashing the news of my freezing all over the feeds and even you tube.....I still get players asking me about that today citing that my rivals are still going around saying that I was caught cheating (yes , they have no lives). I dont understand what the problem with these banned accounts still being in the game....its not like they can attack anyone ....if anything it would still be fun to attack or kill them once they've regenerated their health....no? What good would a list do and where would the list be? Here in the forums? Most players dont come to the forums so how would that clear up any confusion? I believe that current policy removes banned accounts from the leader boards, its not to difficult to check or have someones stats checked and then reference the player on the leader board. For me personally I think it would be neat to see the names and reasons for those banned.....but I really dont see it as helping in any way
The unknown viking this is for when a player has a name that is bad and it gets reported, i should know, i had a name before that some thought was "Rude and offensive" so they reported me, and they also had there guild members report me. So i got on and i find my name is unknown viking. But anyways, i would like to see the names of those who are banned. And its not like showing a banned persons name will cause a big deal, they are banned from the game and everyone deserves to know.
I'm just saying for a banned account the name should also get changed to unknown... Yeah I had a few times that happened to me.
Not Unknown, I'd say Nonperson Viking/Pirate/Mobster/Zombie Slayer. After all, a permanent ban removes them from everywhere but the clan lists and the battle lists. And I'd say a Damnato Memoriae would be a rather good move against these people. Make their achievements vanish and let their names be forgotten.
