I would like to see Kano perform random checks of IP addresses so if any duplicates are found the offending accounts can be put on a 1 week ban. If they repeat the offense, a permanent ban is issued. Is this possible?
I dont think Kano has the time. If you feel like somone is cheating, You always have the option of sending it in to support, (link is in my signature) To investigate every single accounnt would most likley take kanos entire staff weeks. and its really not in the best intrest for some of the games, for example, The games that alts to players are ratinng about 5-1. strip all the alts out of them and you dont have much of a game left. This is one of those post I should press the importance of the red letters of my signature. This is MY opinion, not that of Kano apps.
This is not practical for a couple of reasons: A house/office/location can share the same External IP address which could represent many individual players behind it. IP addresses for many residential services are recycled among clients of the same ISP. ie I reboot my router and I can pick up a new IP address that could have been your old one. I like how you are thinking but there is too much variability to reliably freeze players who show under the same IP. An IP address certainly gives us a good idea if a player uses alts and such but it still requires manual verification.
Would be nice if something like that would work and it was just that easy, but its not. t For starters there is ways of getting around the IP address thing. Even if an IP address is showing numerous accounts, There is no economical or time feasible way for Kano to verify that there is not numerous people utilizing the same PC in the same household. (brothers , sisters , kids, wife, etc etc). I also tend to agree with Eraser that if Kano eliminated all the alts there would be very few players left(at least on myspace). Im def not advocating alts in any way nor am i saying one way is any more or less legal, but I do recognize the diff between players who take alt use to the extreme to help their main accounts and those who are simply trying a diff build or simply have another account for something to do when the other dries up.
Using a series of algorithms, Kano can write a simple program that trips when it finds all duplicates in an IP address. It would be one of the simpler programs to write.
The resetting of IP addresses and sharing does make sense. Shame it's more difficult than once originally thought. Maybe one day we can find a way to weed out the cheaters before they gain enough levels to mess with the honest players. Thanks everyone!!
ip address can be shared by household members but computers numbers are different if someone is loggin in to dif accounts on the same computer that be suspicious enough to check them out
I do have to agree with eraser, alts make the game better(waiting for johnny to make an insinuating reply to that). Just think about this. How many people do you think are alts? How many actually are? When you have no fight list and someone decides to punch you with their 5 alts you suddenly have a fight list. I realize that some people think of alts as a threat, but in a game with so many people quitting alts are probably the best thing that can happen to this game.
Surprises me not to hear some think that Alts are a good thing. Sorry bud. Dont know why you think im going to make some comment towards you. Alts ruin the game plain and simple. If Alts are NEEDED TO MAKE YOUR GAME... Then your Game sucks.
I don't use alts for my game, but it makes my game better when other people use them. I get a friend request from someone who made their account 2 hours ago and I add them. I now have a squad that many people don't want to add and doesn't get listed much. This means I can get more help xp without the risk of missing big hits. The higher level alts fill my fight/rivals list. It's impossible to get rid of alts, but it is possible to use other peoples alts to your own advantage. Play smart.
When ever I get a request from an Alt I send it into support , sometimes a person will send multiple request for multiple alts and if you see them and do nothing , IMO it only make the problem worse, there is a saying "If you see something, Say something, and it can apply in the games also.
it must be nice linda to know when someone requesting squad is an alt or not. or is that in your opinion its an alt without having any real proof other than they dont play as much as you do and therefore must be an alt? just saying....
Well Slave , I get friend requests for games all the time, and sometimes, one after the other, with similar names and I write to these people and ask hey what is up and they say Oh ""these"" are my fb account(s) for games it is not so hard to know, I also know most of the time for sure , and when I am not sure , or someone sends me a message about someone in the Games, and I am inclined to send a report I will say I am not sure. You would also be surprised at the % of players who say this is their second, third ,etc, account in the world chat . I do not add just anyone to my friends list, I check out their wall and see what they play, as I play all 4 games . You might be surprised to know how many people don't know it is against the TOS of kano and Fb to have more than one account. I have FB friends in one game who have more than one account, they had them in another game .
Very well Said Linda. And i completely agree. I find it very hard to accept these friends requests with No pictures but Cartoons, Google Pictures, etc etc etc.. And of course there is that ALLTIME EXCUSE. I dont like to show my real picture online.. Yeah whatever. Myspace, Facebook, and soo many others are how people connect with their family and friends.. If all you can do is put up pictures of Mickey Mouse and Speed Racer on your profile and some Googled up or Photobucket photos, Then you dont deserve to be on my friends nor in my squad.. I have less than 280 in my squad and should get rid of more. Some are still there, those that are no longer with us. i wouldnt ever drop them..
