I plan on doing a lot of cagematches, so would it be better to arm myself with these and then going for the hired captains? Also, is Ole Shortstump's Matey 41/41 a good matey or should I wait for the next set? Same with the ship at 135/137...this seems to be a lot. I joined 2 days ago so I'm fairly new to this.

If you buy those you start with a cool set.. and won´t have to change it in a while, they´re way stronger than boss drops, the ship is all good, as for the matey it´s up to you, if you wait for next week maybe the next has more attack and less def, which i think it´s better If you´re planning to play on long terms just save the point for captains
. It´s about numbers, you buy a 20 un weapon it´s only one, with 20 un you can buy 4 captains , that´s 40 weapons, 40 mateys and 4 ships Plus without captains no can have mateys, ships or weapons
what he's saying is that he wants to do cagematches and more captains doesn't help you in a cagematch its just your personal loadout against your opponent
If he's doing cagematches, then yes, he wants the Limited/Sale items from Davy Jones (or the Gods, etc). However, it's a better idea to wait to buy those items. I did way back when I started Viking Clan (I played that before I played PC) and now I regret spending them because they are SO low in power compared to my current items and even MORE terrible compared to the current Sale items I can buy. Short-term and cagematches - yeah, go ahead. Long-term ANYTHING - wait. Buy Captains first. Once you have the maximum 1000 hired Captains, THEN buy the Davy Jones/God items for Favor Points.
