O.K., I'm all for it, but recently battled another player, waded through about 100 counter attacks, I did manage to hit him a few times before I rec'd this message; ""player" is out of your XP range.". I'd thought that a counter attack counts for an attack for purposes of this restriction. Also an axe slap is supposed to remove the restriction for 24 hours. The other player's last axe slap against me was 4 hours ago and I still can't attack him. What gives? Is this an obscure/new rule or a hack?

I can see that you've sent in a ticket though Support about this as well, and our wonderful Support person Melanie has responded to you there. I've pasted her response here for anyone with similar problems. Enjoy!

"The way the Battle Range restriction works is that a player is not able to attack anyone below their Range unless that person provokes by Attacking, Axe Slapping, or Bountying them.

Provoking opens up a window in which the higher-level player can retaliate. This window closes if the Higher-level player kills the lower-level, or if 24 has passed since the most recent provoking attack.

However, even though Bounty Traps and Counter Attacks deal damage to the attacker, they are considered defensive actions because they are triggered by the attacker. Defensive actions don't provoke and don't extend the retaliation window.

It sounds like the Retaliation window either expired or this player was killed as a result of one of your actions, so the player dropped of your Rivals List and you were no longer able to attack.

Note: setting a bounty on someone counts as killing them, so that will also close off an active retaliation window."
