Ambushes & Booby-traps?????

I am lvl. 185. I have ambushed & booby-traped a guy that is lvl.438 who keeps attacking me. Not hit listed, but attacking. The ambush & booby-traps are not working! Why?

 

They are working.. the level 438 is just blowing right through them.. each ambush & counter counts as an attack keeping you on their rival list & allowing them to hit you back.. see the below link for more information..​

actually sometimes an ambush can fail.

if the player is over 100,000% stronger than you(which is possible as ive done it before)
the ambush will fail.
