ok, re: PvP...

in some games, when attacked (or attacking), stat-wise it takes into account your top 5, 10, or whatever number items.
some, only your top items.

which is it here?

 

You fight with your top squad and the game picks your strongest weapons for you.

When you attack someone it comes up with [Show Details] click on that and it will show you what your fighting with.

 

You take in you top items per squad member, on attacks takes you top attack items, on defense takes you top defense.

i'm asking cuz i'd like to know if i should be bothering upgrading my items...

You also equip yourself with 4 weapons. You can go to your profile and click on "Customize Your Loadout"

If you upgrade your strongest 21 weapons, you'll be right.

but you only customize your loadout with 2 weapons.

 

You must be in the lower levels, you'll end up with 4.

By weapons I meant weapons/vehicle/gear.
