It seems the first version was really disliked - the "hate" towards the "turtles" was really obvious. I used to argue for the turtles, saying that the sacrifices they made to create BA winners should be rewarded and that Kano unfairly yanked the rug out from underneath them - I still feel this way, but I think the first version of BA was unfair as it simply rewarded people who hid. The 100 min attack requirement turned the old version of BA into a very active event on the Kong/AG server, though, and it seems that this "old" format could have been tweaked to create an even better event. The one issue which would remain would be the "time zone" issue - now that BA has been drastically changed, maybe it could be changed again to get rid of another persistent gripe, the "time zone" issue, why not run it as a two day elimination event not in real time?
Allow people to start in level or stat groups (let's say five tiers/groups).
View opponent stats and chose one - then fight to advance - if you win you advance, if you don't you're out, but you don't affect the defenders' chances of progressing (and you can only defeat a defender once),
Whoever has the most wins in their group/tier can progress to the final - maybe advance 2-5 players from each group/tier to the final
The final event score would be kills gained in final divided by defeats (but, to make the math work out, assign a value of 0.1 for no defeats); the net result would be to allow only active players to advance to the final, and offer some reward to players with defensive builds (who, of course, must have been very active to advance to the final), and it would, mostly, get rid of the time zone issue.
For your further enjoyment, here are my current BA results - I am sure you all feel that I deserve my rewards:
