Favor Point Protection

  1. The best defense is a good offense

The best offense is a good defense

All of these describe the mentality of these games & all are apt descriptions. However, there is always ways to overcome the odds. Going back as far as war has been sides have used good old hard money to buy protection temporary protection against their enemies either in the form mercenaries or simply paying their enemies to leave them alone. This brought up an idea:

Sell protection in the game as a Favor Point purchase. Each would cost X amount of points & last X amount of time. Options such as:
    • Counter Attack Boost (decrease cost to purchase or provide protection full time)
    • Bounty Trap Boost (decrease cost to purchase or provide protection full time)
    • Defense Strength Boost (increase a persons defense by X points or X %)
    • Camouflage (prevent a person from being attacked unless they attack first)
Duration could have a short term or long term effect - at an appropriate cost increase for the latter. It could be opted to use against everyone or maybe along the lines of a Syndicate/Armada/Guild specific purpose.

Now, players that don't want this will say it gives an unfair advantage to "cry babies" or "whiners" but they apparently haven't considered the opposite side of the coin: This can be used as an offensive weapon. Think of it as such: you want to provoke someone into a fight but give them a nasty surprise... start the fight & once they are fully committed to the battle, buy one of the protections to use as a offensive weapon instead of a defensive shield. Think in the lines of modern warfare - make a strike on your enemy & then withdraw hoping they'll follow only to get hit by your ambush.

What was I thinking?! Who in their right mind would ever suggest a way for Kano to make people pay to use a free game? I mean, the nerve of companies to charge real money of it's users to get access to special features that those that choose to only play for free not be able to have. Really, who would ever even think of suggesting adding a feature people would have to shell out real cash for when it's only a temporary effect?

Seriously, who in their right mind would ever want to add a new level of complexity to a combat oriented game by adding a strategic advantage people could actually use for both offensive & defensive purposes? We should simply do away with any advantages in the games for helping in the fighting & for that matter let's just make the odds of winning & losing battles a 50/50 chance of success. What would be the point of adding a new level of combat to shake things up for those that never seem to lose? Simply insane.

It has nothing to do with spending money or FP's it has to do with this is a fighting game not a hiding game;)

  8. That's the thing, these bonuses aren't meant to hide behind, they are meant to give an element of surprise or to help you fight back against people you normally have no chance of fighting. I can see ways to use each both as an attack asset & a defense asset. You can't just look at it as a way to keep from being hurt, but as a way to reduce how much you are getting hurt while fighting back.

If you knew you could fight back against a more powerful enemy if you had a way to reduce how much damage they could do to you, you wouldn't do it? I would in a heartbeat. In fact, right now, I'm getting bountied almost every day & axe slapped every couple hours by the exact same person... so am I sitting back & hiding - no. In the past 2 days I've actually died making attacks on him. Death is just another stat & doesn't mean anything... the points you lose, pfft, easily made up elsewhere. If I could hold out longer in fights, I'd attack more & be able to do more damage. If he couldn't bounty me as easily, he'd actually have to fight. If he got tired of my dieing while trying to kill him, he could use the "camouflage" type boost to create a cease fire of sorts.

That's what I meant by this is both a "The best offense is a good defense" AND "The best defense is a good offense"... you just have to consider options outside the box.

I understand but I am not in favor of it, I want and I bet most want to retaliate in any fashion and at any time and as much as they want, we already of the protection feature, and I doubt I would ever use it, but I have made some use it on me,ever stronger higher level players, I am not the type to back down, unless it is suicide and even then I sometimes take it to the limit lol depending on my mood and if I have the time.

  10. In my current situation that basically has me no longer playing the game for more than daily GPs for my guild - it's suicide against 4 opponents so far out of my league that if this was the real world I'd be throwing rocks while they dropped tactical nuclear weapons.

ADDENDUM: But, I keep throwing the rocks & when they stop dropping the bombs, I throw more rocks (they blocked me from sending them messages).

We have all had these issues, back when I first started playing I decided to lay low when the person who made me their target ,and would stay in the hospital, I can always figure out when someone/s like that played and played when they were offline, 9 out of 10 times I would level past them doing that and turn the tables, they did not like that, but Now playing alot longer I use other strategies , Sure there were times I wanted to stop playing but I am not a quitter , and I would continue playing, in one game right now I am dealing with half a guild on me for two weeks now but I still get the better of their higher levels and the ones in my XP range, it is me by myself against them, fun times :p
