[VC] Don't Anger The Gods: Inactive Players Are Now Being Hit-Listed

This change is finally making its way to Viking Clan! The Gods have begun expressing their displeasure with Vikings who have not raided in a while and are now putting inactive players on the hit-list! This is currently active for both Kano Play Myspace and Facebook.

The developers wanted active players to have someone to gun for when the hit-list is empty, so they cooked up these parameters for inactive players to be listed:

• Have not played in 6+ months.
• Must be over level 300.
• If the hit-list has been empty for a short amount of time and the player meets both of these parameters, they will be listed.

And that's it! Unless you want Odin putting a price on your head, you better keep adventuring! What do you folks think about this new feature?

Hunting just became much more fun. The Gods really love to shower us with money.

 

How is this going to work with the bounty delay? Im assuming the delay is an effort to thwart gold transfers and or chain listing. Seems to me that the random bounties put up by Kano shouldnt add to this already unfair /unnecessary limit imposed on us.

I cant say enough what a good idea I think this was...but with that said (wait for it....wait for it...lol)....I think it needss to be dialed up a few notches. Yea...I know its early and you guys are watching closely and will adjust as u see fit....but personally I think youy you should strike while the iron is hot.

I finally got around to dedicating some time to ye olde bounty page (something i havent done in quite some time. even got a couple of math equations...yea me...lol) and was fortunate enough to catch a couple of auto bounties. But I tell ya what...it was still akin to watching paint dry. You gotta keep in mind exactly how far these games have slipped from what they once were. Im sure thats exactly what you are doing....but im talking about from a players perspective. These games are in major major trouble.....to be honest....had I signed up for the first time with the games being as slo motion as they are now....theres no way i would have continued.

Players love bounties...they love the coin...they love beating someone else out of it....its like a PVP lottery with a side of cracker jack.....ya never know what your gonna get.... the payoff could be huge and u may have to suffer some consequences....its easily one of the more exciting aspects of the games.

Personally...I think u guys should be pumping out these bounties at a much faster clip....multiple bounties should be going up at the same time regardless of whether or not real players are setting them at the same time. There must be tens of thousands of these abandoned accounts...let em rip...players love them!


How many active players have become extremely casual players recently and why? Theres nothing to do....even the more inane aspects of the game are lacking because we simply dont have the player count to make things happen. Even if a new player signs up...what are they gonna see but a whole lot of nothing going on? I think the key is to reinvigorate first the players that were once more active, when they sign on to come in and collect their boosts and do their dailies they should be inundated with bounties flying...catch their attention....keep em around! the vast majority will still be auto listings so there wont be all that much retaliation....even the "softer" crowd will be happy.

What I fear is gonna happen is that u guys are going to play it a lil to safe once again and lose out on what is potentially one of the best opportunities youve had in a long time. New content is great....but it tends to get watered down and can even become overwhelming and confusing to a new player if theres just to much content. I think its important to remember what made these games great in the first place....what drew players to them. It was the core aspects and bounties being atop that list. Dont succomb to the whiners who think the game is to bullyish....embrace what made u great in the first place and build on that! You have a great opportunity here Kano....dont blow it.


I sat on the bounty page for a couple of hours and like I said I was able to score a couple of bounties both automated and not....but it was still nothing but a mere shell of what things once were. Every now and then when I grew tired of clicking away I would go back and check all the other aspects of the game in hopes of ekeing something out....but alas...there was nothing much to find. I honestly applaud your guys efforts and totally believe you want nothing more than to bring these games back. I know u listen to the players (hence...this update) but you need to take more drastic measures. Step outside your comfort zone and roll the dice. Would way more bounties really upset the balance? What good is balance if there is no one playing your games?

My apologies for the rant...but trust me in that I want these games to rebound as well. The guys n gals that have played these games the longest were once new players themselves, new players that stuck around and continue to do so.....who knows these games and what its player like and want more than they/us? Ty for taking the time to read.

 

I just read Polish's post and I am adding this simple thing: you are missing an achievement that many people have attained already. Oddly you have space in your game panels for it too. 1000 "Hit Em Up Achievements". Underneath it, you could add a row for 1500, 2000, 2500, 3000. Why? So that there is action and reason for action that is related to the playing of the game.



In ye old days, there would be a bounty fest or two, again loved/wanted, by players, when this achievement was actively done. When we were newbies, we created lists to list. 400 is not a big listing achievement. Nor a big party to see either or host.

Tying in to that has always been the paradox of the "Wanted Dead Or Alive Achievements" - the bounty kills. Where are they supposed to come from? Top achievement is 30,000.

I like the move. I hope there is no top range limit but I also hope that the 5 or so players I am aware of who have died in real life, are filtered from the Anger of the Gods. Quitters are different.

I understand your concern about listing a player who is no longer with us and it is entirely not our intention to upset or disrespect anyone, alive or dead, by this listing by the Gods. However, aside from physically removing them from the game (which we don't do) they are still subject to Battles and being Bountied etc etc from other players. Having said that their Stats and XP are unaffected by this listing by the Gods as we are just trying to promote activity within the game.

I hope this clarifies this issue some but at the end of the day there is no simple solution for handling players who have passed.

As Smack said, inactive players are still subjected to Battles or being hit-listed by players, and there was no issue with this beforehand.

I think that most people can appreciate that Kano/Apps doesn't mean any disrespect to those who have passed on, and we take down accounts for players who have passed away if we can verify it.

 

i no for myself if i heard of player pass on i am not going to go after that player... but thats me...

 

Oh brother! No intended disrespect to those that feel that listing those that have passed would be disrespectful....but lets get real shall we.

Additionally....no disrespect to those that have passed either....but I m pretty sure they couldn't care less right about now. Did u consider that they might feel honored by it (if they could feel)? Obviously they enjoyed the game so perhaps they would have liked the idea that they have not been forgotten and they will be part of and active in the game they enjoyed for as long as the games are in existence. Personally....I hope they list the heck out of my account after im gone and those that are offended by it go after the ones that got me in hopes of creating new rivalries and rekindling old ones, that is after all what drives these games is it not?

How many people have passed that Kano doesnt even know about and how many players have supposedly passed that actually havent? Are u actually suggesting Kano waste resources on finding this stuff out? The only realistic thing that could be done is to eliminate the whole update altogether and thats just an absurd way of thinking. This is easily one of the better updates Kano has ever put in place especially when one considers the current state of the games. I think they should actually crank it up a few dozen notches.

To be honest.....i question the motives of at least one player who claims listing those who have passed as disrespectful. They have shown on numerous occasions they have no respect for those who have passed or suffer from grave illnesses by continuously making remarks in feeds,signatures here in the forums and mocking them with their names both here and the game as well.

Kano has stated that these listings by the Gods will not affect their stats....thats respectful. Now lets continue to honor them by keeping them relevant in the games they loved and take em off the bounty!

 

Quick update

The frequency of these Gods bounties has been increased. We continue to monitor this on both Facebook and MySpace so there may be more tweaks in the coming days.

Not sure how many others have encountered this, but the strategic part of listing 'X' person from chat sometimes get's interfered with the 5 god postings at 1 time. There is no time to really look FB VC, thus taking out that option when happens to occur at the same time. Could 'GOD' bounties possibly get moved to bottom of the board or any other suggestions?

 

Sry...Cant get on board with this one....I actually like that things can get confused....it makes it a bit more exciting. Ive already lost a couple of rather large bounties intended for me due to what your referring to and im ok with it. The fact that it does this actually helps Kano with their efforts to curb gold transfers. Maybe if were lucky they will see this as enough of a deterrent and get rid of some of the more antiquated ways they had for dealing with transfers that also had "unintended" negative impacts on other aspects of the games

 

Understood, but don't you think this will deter as well placing big bounties for almost no reason at all? The way I'm seeing GOD bounties are not 'exactly random' when the bounty page is inactive. I see them go up when plenty bounties are going up. I for 1 do not play GUILD WARS but this would effect them a lot more than average player who go for the virtual ribbon/trophy LOL.
