Kano Play Avatars (MS Server)

Hello Everyone,

One of the biggest requests we get for Kano Play continues to be the selection of avatars. We have a few different projects in the queue but this is one of our top priorities for KP.

Eventually we want to have a fully supported user profile, where people can post info about themselves, the games they play, etc.

We will be integrating with a 3rd party service to enable avatars on Kano Play. This will allow us to get images into the game as quickly as possible (managing a avatar system is no easy task).

To be prepared for the new avatars, you simply register the email that you have signed up with on Kano Play at http://gravatar.com

Gravatar is the most widely supported 3rd party avatar system. If there are shortcomings we can look to address once we start to tackle better user support on KP.

We hope to get this addition implemented this week.

OK, so we got some basic avatar functionality into Kano Play MS Server. This is how it works, the email that you use to login to Kano Play or that we have on record will be used try to pull a gravatar for that email.

Not familiar with Gravatar, basically it is a 3rd party avatar system that a lot of big sites use. Read more and create an account if you don't have one here: gravatar.com

Now if you don't have a gravatar but you have connected to Kano Play through FB Connect your Facebook image will show.

So basically, from your email we look for a gravatar, if a gravatar doesn't exist and you are connected with FB we will pull that image, if you don't have either your photo will show up as empty.

Make sense?

As we continue to develop out Kano Play we will add a user settings to make selection of photo configurable.

Images are cached, so over the next day or so, images will start to be updated over to the new Kano Play avatars.

***UPDATE 7/10/2013***
Slight set-back, some people that have been connected to FB don't like that their FB picture is showing. So what we will do is remove FB profile image as an option until we are communicating what is happening in the game with a profile settings.

What does this mean, well that those that are ok with their FB profile image showing will not have them show until we can put an option to select.

If you don't like the "No Photo" picture, sign up for a gravatar with the email you use to login to Kano Play.

 

Why is my FACEBOOK pic showing up?

That's not the gravatar i used.

 

mine is showing no pic at all...

 

We will default gravatar first, while testing going gravatar only was going to be a sea of no photos.

Will prioritize gravatar before facebook photo for those accounts that have connected with FB as well.

Will get that out shortly and post an update on avatars on Kano Play.

Ok i'm signed up at gravatar and no pic showing up..hmmm..lol nevermind it showed up in the game..LOL

 

how long does it take until it shows on the games ???

 

It takes a few moments for Gravatar to sync with the games.

 

I did what was ask.But my photo did not show up why.

 

Maybe you chose too high a rating for your avatar, I'm not entirely sure which rating Kano allows on its site. I have the same problem, will try it with giving the picture a lower rating.

 

that site is working just fine with me only thing i done is sign up an upload a photo an it didnt take me no longer then just under 5 minutes to complete an my rating is a G-everyone good going kano

 

...ok I have done everything possible on gravatar to get pic on game...it even shows in upper corner on gravatar the email and pic( same pic as I had before ) and even been 24 hrs...rating is good....now what is the problem?...

 

If it's the same email on Gravatar and Kano Play then everything should be working at this point. Try logging out and clearing your browser history. If the problem still persists, check that the email is correct. If it still doesn't work after that, shoot and email to Support and they'll try and help you straighten it out!

 

picture upload will be cool .. can we do flash .. moving images ?
