changes in arena

  1. I call it the way I see it and speak my mind. Will I hear about it? Yeah I'm sure I will hear the WTFs and the why are you telling everyone, but if it stops the bitching and complaining and helps them to change the right thing, then so be it. I can take the abuse.

i was getting throttled no matter how i played
and getting throttled when you try to get as many attacks in as quickly as possible is ridicolous when your playing in an environment where you have to be quicker and attack more than the next guy or your writing on the forum about how arena is no good for the game.

and the worst part of the throttling it seems to only happen right when the kill is on the line, it doesnt happen at 100 million to go it happens at 5 million to go and when you get the message your done, you cant get back in as soon as you click you get the message again.

so everyone can thank you for taking down someone from 200 million and you get absolutely no chance at the kill of which you provided 99 percent of the work on.

and i did win arena, i won arena before the exploit, i won arena during the exploit, and i won after they throttled it down.
but it didnt make playing the arena worthwhile gettting throttled, so im not just doing whining here, im telling you how it is and the way it is right now, is lousy....

so put that in your pipe and smoke it...

How new is this Throttling thing? And are we only applying its usefulness....er, un-usefulness to Arena?? It was more than a couple weeks ago that I had a message pop up during regular game play after repeatedly hitting the hitlist button waiting for something to pop up....If ya keep clicking long enough it has you work out some simple math problem to continue. Was there an uproar over that function when it started as well? I'm asking honestly, as I don't know.

Slave, I also posted on one of your other threads about an idea that would make semi-sense to input in lieu of 1) the throttling feature and the idea of losing the critical Death Blow because of it, 2) spread the wealth of health build up for the later rounds 3) eliminate alot of frustration from the masses....

Suggestion: Implement a feature that would require users to have XX number of attacks on a player prior to them reaching..say...10-12mil health remaining in order to compete for the Death Blow and gain the health bonus.

This would allow you to click click click away and run the risk of 'running out of steam' without worrying about the last minute snipers coming in without them putting in just a touch of effort themselves before hand. Everyone knows when you're not the only one hitting on some player......and if you were to see that someone was also going to be competing for it early on, it would turn it more into a chess game of how or when to attack and eliminate the need or worry to run into the throttling feature.

This is just a suggestion....and i'm sure it'll get ripped apart, but in terms of making the Arena a better feature of the game, rather than something that people just gonna complain about more than appreciate....why not look at actually improving it, leveling out the playing field a bit, sharing potential rewards and allowing the potential for a level 660 cat to actually go a decent clip into the later rounds?

great idea, but their idea of leveling the field is slowing people down so everyone gets a turn at bat, just like little league.

the exploit according to them was brought to their attention a few weeks ago, and surprisingly its still there, why bother to fix the exploit?
why not instead recreate the wheel and spend valuable programming time making a "fix" to slow people down instead of doing the right thing and fixing the exploit.

id like to know how much time they wasted trying to determine how many clicks a second somene could get, and you know what? they still got it wrong.

basic staples mouse and i can still outclick their parameter
and im an aging man with slow reflexes, imagine what the youth of today can do.....

i gave them a suggestion a long time ago, (one of many) to split the health reward between the person who does the most damage on a target and the person who gets the deathblow, their response to that was to give a miniscule health reward when you attack if you are below your starting health. So to end this blasphemy, they ask for ideas, we give them to them, then they do what they want.
they dont even play the game, how would they know what is good for gamers without a gamer on staff????????????

    LMAO!!!

Glad to be in the area where learning can be done. Lots of valuable insight here, seemingly where the powers that be all congregate. Hope I can add to the mix.

Slave TLPC has won the arena again, an unprecedented third time
Once before the exploit, once during the xploit, and now once with the throttling

fix the exploit, spend on your time on fixing the exploit not reducing our chances of playing when it matters.
the other thing i think most people underestimate, you can only attack to the amount of your stamina, when you reduce the capacity to attack you are catering to people who dont have the stamina to do the attacks to begin with.

try thinking about that, you either pay un to play or you sit and try to snipe, but when someone has the stamina to attack and cant because of limitations you put into play, you have ruined the game.

thats my piece, have at it jonny[/QUOTE]

if Kano does not fix the exploit they won't get another un purchase from me and i will lose most of my interest in the game and i am fairly sure I am not the only one who feels this way. all this did was give snipers an even bigger window to snipe kills from people who are taking people down from full health. so go ahead kano, keep ticking off your loyal players and see where it gets you.

Does everyone realize that everybody talking about arena in a different thread is basically saying the exact same thing?
I have noticed this. It may be quite a problem to upset that many people. (sarcasm, to any who think I'm actually being serious about this part of the comment...and the rest, although the rest is rather serious, but in a dumb sort of way)
I mean...even those who pay for the UN, supporting Kano, are upset with it.
That is a huge no-no in the rulebook of maintaining a game.
Do not upset the big dogs. :)

wonder bread, fix the exploit, thats all im asking

i dont believe it was necessary for you to make any kind of fix to substitute for fixing the exploit.
fix the exploit so that we can attack to our hearts content, because really you only upset the people that actually play arena, no one else even knows or understands the throttle unless they actually play arena, and you can tell me better than i can guess how few people that actually is.

the people that play arena all hate the throttle feature, i havent heard a single person yet who "plays" arena that supported it or liked it, doesnt that tell you something?

the only person that supported it, is happy because he thinks you cut out some sort of cheat we were using, but he doesnt play and wouldnt know a throttle feature if it smacked him in the face.

the basic results of the top 20 stayed virtually the same, because those are the same people that actually try in arena
until you have more than 20-30 people that are actually playing the names will always be the same at the end.

i did "well" but it was for lack of trying, i gave up about 2 hours into the arena, cuz i was so disgusted at being put into timeout on every person i was attacking. I didnt do much attacking the rest of the arena, and won by default because no one else attacked me cuz i was high health member, but i certainly didnt do anything extraordinary to win, i basically waited out the competition to remove itself letting them feed on the lowest health people thus explaining why this arena took two days to finish versus the one, because i am usually a "driver" in arena, and this time i sat back and was a rider instead, not the way id prefer to play but your throttle feature was frustrating because i felt i couldnt compete for the kill as the arena wore on, and thats not the way arena should be played, if you do 195 million damage on a target that has 200 million health and you have to sit in timeout while the last five million is going, that is a lousy result for any driver.....im not even in the hunt at the end. Its one thing to be sniped while your trying, but to sit on the sidelines in timeout while the vultures all feed on your hard work is going to end arena.

fix the exploit please and please stop trying to place limitations on a contest in which people thrive on trying to out attack and out maneuver each other. my game is to attack more and quicker than the other guy, when you take my game away but not theirs, that is plain and simple ----- not fair.

I wanted to thank all of you for letting us know how you feel about the throttling feature. I also wanted to thank American Nightmare for outlining specifically how they accessed the exploit. While we were aware of the exploit, and did put a fix in for it, it appears that there were other ways of using the exploit that the fix didn't fix. We are currently working on a new fix that should remove all versions of the exploit, which should be implemented before the next ZS Arena. That being said, please do try and use it and any other in-game exploit you're aware of in the next arena, and let us know if any are still usable. We absolutely want the Battle Arena to continue being fun and competitive, and we sincerely appreciate you guys helping us make sure that it is. If you'd like to report an exploit privately, feel free to message me here in the forums or send me an email through community@kanoapps.com.
We are currently looking into a possible feature that would provide something similar to the exploit but that would be available in a limited capacity to everyone, possibly something similar to a power attack. This isn't something currently in development, but something we've talked about as a way to enable an easier Battle Arena experience while keeping it fair and competitive for everyone.
@Slave I also wanted to briefly touch on a few points you made in the post I moved here. First off, I appreciate your feedback, and I appreciate that you've presented a series of cohesive arguments, which is much nicer to look at and digest than some of the rage we get occasionally, although I certainly understand gamer rage.
Brief WB aside: Which reminds me, I believe someone mentioned in this thread that we don't employ any gamers here at Kano, which I take personal offense to as I'm quite the gamer myself. While we may not all play our own games as often as we'd like (mostly because we're too busy fixing/maintaining them to do so) we are all still gamers at heart. I'm personally enjoying the fact that I can start every Slayer match in Halo 4 with a DMR, which I think is a great change over Reach or 3. End aside
As I've mentioned above, we are working to fix the exploits, and appreciate any and all help you can provide doing so. I've always said we don't want to provide any unfair limitations on players not using outside assistance, and I mean it. I personally tested our new throttle myself today, and wasn't able to trigger it by clicking my mouse, although not for lack of trying (my arm still hurts.) If you are triggering it, feel free to send me a message letting me know how you're setting it off, and we can continue making sure the throttle is where it needs to be.

If you fix the exploit, why would there be a need for the throttle?

WB, I don't think they are referring to games in general. I think they're referring to ZS specifically.

While I'm happy that you're happy with Halo 4, your aside has nothing to do with the topic at hand.

As time continues to roll on, I feel that developers lose sight of just how a game is played. Unless of course they're actually playing the game. It's not the fault of the developers and they'll never be able to keep up with the player base in general due to sheer numbers, but someone on the staff needs to be a dedicated player or it behooves the developers to actually listen to those that do play the game.

I've felt that you haven't been listening to us in a long, long time. At least since the hired squad debacle, and probably way before that. I almost quit playing then and still may as I'm still not satisfied with the addition. And I wasn't alone. And now you're messing with your cash cow? How foolish is that? I don't participate in the arena, I don't ever care to participate in the arena. I'm not interested in building my toon in the necessary ways required to be a success in the arena. Nor am I interested in spending he money to achieve, at least to me the rather dubious rewards. I'm not interested in leveling quickly, nor am I interested in the paltry UN rewards. I don't care about bragging rights. But there are many that do. And there are many that spend money to do so. It makes no sense to ignore the cries of those that actually participate.

I would suggest you fix the problem correctly, rather then use a band aid and calling it a day.

Lol sadly Kano couldn't care less, in their eyes it is either play the game they way they have it no matter how much they screw everyone over, or don't play. they claim to work so hard to keep the game going but all i see is more screw ups upon screw ups. Arena was awesome and they had to screw that up. arena belongs to the snipers even more so now than it did before so thanks Kano for giving the lazy players an even bigger window to come in and take out a player you worked hard to drain! good luck getting people to buy un to participate in your arena!

@TWBB + itb The throttle was put in place to deal with the current exploit, but also as a way to ensure future exploits don't come up. We've tested the feature a bunch and are fairly confident that players playing by clicking their mouse won't be affected. That being said, if you do run into the throttle by clicking your mouse, please send a message in to support with your account details so we can take a look. Again, the important thing to remember is that you shouldn't even notice that the feature is there. It was developed for you guys to keep the games fair and competitive, not to restrict anyone.

@Mer I'm sorry to hear that you feel that way, but the reality is that we care very much about the game and the players who play it. I agree that we make mistakes, but we're always interested in working with players to continue to improve the game. Like I always say, help us help you!

@David I do realize my love of Halo was off-topic, which is why I tried to make it as unobtrusive as possible, although I did want to establish my gamer cred. You can't diss a man's cred and not expect him to back it up. Not that teh Haloz is huge cred, but anyways, I digress.

I agree with you that we need to listen to players who play our games. We absolutely believe that, and have always tried to do so, even if it doesn't always appear that we do. The reason I'm here is to listen to players, and while I do my darnedest to be accessible, I know I can always do better. We like you guys, and we like that you enjoy our game(s), and we want you to keep enjoying them because we like making them for you.

I'm sorry to hear you don't feel we're listening, and I can't speak to things that happened before my time here, but I can say that we're listening now, and we're very interested in making things as fun and competitive as possible.

Even when the "running out of steam" message didn't come up, the game was slowed down. You could not attack as fast as you normally could with a regular mouse. This did restrict the game and the slowness was definitely noticeable. Sorry but that is not fair nor is it competitive. If I can click faster (without the exploit) then the next guy I should not be punished for being fast and he should not be rewarded for being slow. We should not be equalized to the same speed. That's not a competition.

The "fun and competitive",part mean that should mean everyone should have the same chance of winning a kill, an Arena.
That is simply not the case. At my level I should be able to beat or at least match most players lower than me. I have max stam, better health than lower players and I have used refills. I can hold my own when I put my mind to it while hunting, and I'm sure many who have been in chat rooms and put up a target know how quick I can be. Time and time again I can be sniped by the same players who I later find where a lot lower than me. I've been sniped by guys with 20 kills in the first hour while I might have 1 for all the effort I put in.

The boards are now lit up by some of those players not only complaining but sounding pretty desperate about a message I've yet to see.
I guess if Kano bend under pressure on this one, it will have to bend on all the other changes that have effected the majority of players and not just the few complaining now.
