Hey everyone...please be patient at what im going to TRY and explain...LOL...as im sure you are aware Facebook has changed the chat options on the group pages..now instead of the NORMAL group chat..we have to select every member to join a convo...and groups over 40 dont even get that option..the MAIN issue with that is..its sent now as a message ....so it goes to everyones cell phones as a message..where before it wasnt..so now all guilds have lack of instant communication...MANY guilds and groups of people use these for instant communication between each other ..for slaps , war tactics , sharing boss fights etc....and MANY other things pertaining to Viking Clan..I know you gave us the world chat..worthless i must say....sorry !..How difficult would it be to have a KANO/Viking Clan chat instituted ? where when you join VC you also get a VC chat ..you would have a friends list you build from clan and mutual friends on VC...and only vc players can use.each guild would get a GUILD only group chat...maybe have the option to add outsiders but thats not as important as instant communication between guild members ..like during war , the GW ...you have no idea how beneficial it was to have...to assist with kills , slaps , bountys,,,let alone the general assists..Maybe even just the guild group chat optin as we could still communicate with others in VC through Facebook...my biggest issue is the communication inside the guilds i guess...PLEASE PLEASE do something since Facebook has not even given us the choice as to how to receive the chat convo..
I know that Kano has tried to do a chat function but it has time outs in guild mode, the hyperlinks do not work (you have to copy and paste them). As LaScepter there has said, you once said ... give us the problem and if its a good idea, you will do it - were not the engineers on the how to's ... you are. FB is begging for a chat function for groups over 35 ( I think that is the limit). HELP!!!!!
I am also a member of SN and have to agree with LaScepter. Viking Clan has lost something now that I can't communicate with my guild. In addition to everything said, the ability to communicate with team members in real time gives a sense of community. It makes us closer as a guild. Since instant messaging has been stopped I have found VC just to be less enjoyable, more boring. You need to fix this KANO or you will find people just drifting away through simple apathy. Leveling is not enough, the human contact between guild members is a big part of why I enjoy playing the game. Even now after a short period of no instant chat I find my interest drifting.
Your right there Geo...my play time since this all began has been cut in half ! I have the grace to play MANY hrs a day...but now.. i get bored..the lack of instant communication has taken the fun out of it for me ...so i find other things to do..all the while ..missing the sense of community that you spoke of....almost the feeling of playing alone !...hate it !
If your in a guild and most (not all) of the serious players are ... its an absolute nightmare ! My Iphone is going nuts trying to keep up with the good friends, I've made over years in this game ... From Finland to Australia and North America to North Wales ... Something needs to be done because this new FB policy is killing it
not an issue for me, but in another thread this is what someone said Facebook has fix the issue. (to some degree) You can now chat with your groups again but you have to load the chat in a different way. You now have the option to select who gets your chat messages, you can select specific group members or click the "select all" box. you can also have an email thread and use the regular chat from there
The email thread to chat, means that an iphone pings away constantly ... Yes we chat a lot in SN ... to stop it the only option is to leave the conversation and once gone .. its a real hassle to re join !
My Iphone does not ping, but then again I just use it as a phone or to do the world boss, but that is what a group in LCN did and it is working for them, for me , chat or no chat does not affect my game one way or another, so was just sharing what others are doing for now , anyway. so good luck
SO LInda...all due respect...are you in an active guild ? in the Guild Wars ? or do you just hit a boss here and there and a lil chat on the side. ? Our guild like many other active guilds rely on instant communication between all members .. which is what we used our group chat for....as for the fix .. yeah thats fine if you have less than 30 members in the group and you MUST invite each one to the chat ..that sends its convo as a message now to everyone's phones...and for the groups bigger than 30,,,nada...nothing...no group chat option available !....either way....VC should have something comparable in place to begin with....at least for the guilds....i see this as a huge issue thats only going to grow worse..the longer the players in VC CANT communicate to each other the more will fall off with their playing time and desire to sit and click away for hrs...i bet if they tracked it you would see a drop off already of time logged on active on VC ...i see it and im one of those as well...what a boring game it can be without communicating with my guild..
Linda, If this is not an issue for you that is fine...really. But for many of us it is a problem and your comments, are offhand, and dismissive. Simply because this is not an issue for you, I'd appreciate it if you were not so dismissive of those for whom it is a BIG problem.
Mighty Australian For some players, myself included, being in a different time zone makes a huge difference to playing the game.. The lack of a chat option has made playing the game more difficult.. Being a part of a war guild, I don't want to have to find out who is online first due to... 1. Playing time is often limited for myself 2. Being a part of several different groups means I have to search for all members.. I have had the fortune of being able to have the group chats automatically open.. and that can make or break the success of a week for those in a war guild. The time differences may only be 10 hrs, but when many players are asleep, and I wish to play, the inconvenience and waste of time searching for online players of several groups is a complete hindrance to my game.. Since the automatic chats have stopped, I am also missing out on other information that I need to know about ie.. slaps, bounties .. I dont have an iphone available for use for messages, so without the group chats, how do I find out what I need to know.
What I think Kano could do is better enable the chat u have: 1) no time outs on guild and group functions; 2) make active the hyperlinks in your chat as you have in VC Messages; 3) elective positioning: up at the top is stealing screen space from the bottom, possible solution, left side of page w/ tick box to make open; and 4) if there are limits in Group chat, set them reasonably high: a group I founded has 150 or so active VC members from all guilds in the game. FB by taking this measure has really mucked up the social side the game we play as others have noted. Will it wreck the fun? I think so. Its been nothing but a pain in the you know where this week with this change. Message "all" or "ticking" some, in a group, if you have that option for a small group, is not feature but a nasty piece of work to get offline VC players annoyed to be in such groups.
While I was not being dismissive, just saying I do not use it so no need for me to look for a way, but shared some info I heard thru out the day for maybe some options that can help players who need this chat that some others are now using , sorry those options can not help you, but as far as the ping, there is a setting in a group page to not let fb messages go to your reg email but to allow them to go to your phone, neither of which I use, and that is why my phone does not ping.
This is a major issue for many guilds/groups as they are a means of opening up communication lines. As noted by others the world chat is a complete waste of time and space, all you seem to get there are people looking to "add me, daily player". Group/guild chats are and have been used extensively to conduct guild business by all members, and to cross pollinate ideas with players from allied guilds, enemy guilds, and others who have been in the game for a considerable time. I would think it's an important means of having people understand the game, and to also socialise with those who may or may not be giving you the rough end of the pineapple within the game, please kano, reinstitute our inbuilt guild/group chats, they're important!
I have been a very active member of VC and guild wars for a long time, agree with all that has been said so not going to repeat. I will say i am very unhappy with the loss of guild/group communication, so much so i am fast losing interest in not only Viking Clan but Facebook as well. please kano, reinstate our guild/group chats, they're important!
Well i see everyone will moan and complain in private about this issue but THEY fail to support here where we need to be heard..as usual ! Actually im not shocked...Once again a very important issue falls on deaf ears...not 1 comment or reply from ANYONE at KANO..wow Facebook NEVER responded as usual either..Myself and many in my guild have cut their play time in VC in half...because of the inability to communicate instantly with all guild members.....the FUN has left the game...i cant believe ..me of all people would say that !...time to find something else to play.....to pass the time....
Hey LaScepter. We just came off a long weekend here in Kanoland hence the quietness. I understand your concern and it certainly sucks that Facebook has taken away a communication channel used by yourself and others. While we have explored Guild chat type of system I cannot even begin to give you a time frame on that as it is very much an "Idea" much like this thread. In the meantime I would look for a 3rd party tool to accommodate your chat. It is not as seamless as what you were using in Facebook, but until they either fix it or we have our own solution it may be the only option.
To further Smack's comments, I think the estimation of our pull with Facebook is extremely overrated, to put it simply we have no voice in the decisions that they make with respect to changes with their product. Facebook seems to have pulled group chat without any notification or reasoning that we can find. With respect to options, the in-game guild chat could be used. I have seen some suggestions but what would be the top 3 changes to in-game chat to make it more useful for you as players? Linkable in-game content, un-dockable chat window and larger groups would those be the top 3? As for replicating something similar to Facebook Group Chat in the short term, there are plenty of 3rd party chat services that could be used. Skype is one that could work as a temporary solution at least until Facebook reverts their Facebook Group chat or we make some further improvements to in-game chat.
Here is a idea, since Facebook looks to be removing chat functionality on Groups, what would people think about us hosting our own chat service here where players can create their own chat groups etc? This is just an idea and we haven't done too much digging but could be an alternative for people.
This is for FB players right? Myspace doesn't have a chat and everyone seems to figure everything out fine. But I guess when FB has something like this it becomes depended on. Well I'm sure something will get figured out.
