If Myspace were to fold....

I play Zombie Slayer on Myspace and was curious what route Kano Apps would take with those players on Myspace if the platform itself was to shutdown. Would Kano be able transfer our account stats to a Facebook account?

Everyone knows that Myspace is now in a decline and has been for sometime. I still prefer it for applications myself. However, with the recent news that Myspace is laying off half of its staff along with last months announcement by the COO of News Corp (the owners of Myspace) that Myspace is losing millions of dollars and that the losses are neither acceptable nor sustainable..... it does make me wonder how much longer before the platform is shutdown. I know they have now said they are open to someone purchasing Myspace but the outlook doesn't look good.

I haven't spent a great deal of money to play as of yet but I would feel better if I knew that my investment of time and money was with Kano as opposed to Myspace and that Kano would be able to transfer our games.... just in case :)

It is highly doubtful that MySpace would fold, but if that was the case we would be able to figure out something to make our customers happy. If they are cutting employees, it may be just to refocus their efforts and cut out the extra fluff.

What will likely happen, if anything at all, is that MySpace would be sold to a Private Investor group that would try to get that network back on the right track in terms of profitability and performance. If a Social Network like Bebo can exist I have no question that MySpace will be around for a very long time yet.

I had to come back because I felt bad about singling out Bebo, Friendster is another example of Social Networks that are still around. MySpace isn't going to go away, there are still a ton of people that use the site.

I would like to think so to but I've done a lot of reading about it due to an investment I have with another application on MS that I spent thousands on. With what I read I won't spend anymore on that application as the developer isn't likely to transfer MS accounts. (I'm not speaking of Kano Apps!).

If you do a google search with some keywords you will find information on everything from the impending layoffs, the closing down of the social thinktank for MS (just announced today), and most importantly News Corps own COO's comments. He mentioned that the future of Myspace is now being established by the quarter rather than by years at this point. And, don't quote me on the exact figure, but I think it was something like 70 million lost last quarter.

Beebo and Friendster are not in the same league.

The recent changes on Myspace were something they were hoping would bring a modest turnaround on but instead it backfired leading even more people to leave the site.

Maybe they will get a private investor to buy it :). We can all hope. I know I am not a big fan of the way applications run on Facebook.

It is good to hear that Kano would work with us though no matter what :). Thanks for the answer. I give Kano major kudos for all the updates and the fact that you guys listen to your players and give them what they want. Would this be a good time to mention I hate the Death Deal?... LOL :p
