TGIF! What happened this past week in Dev and Community?

    Player Bans June 7 - June 13

As a reminder, the following numbers are permanently frozen accounts, and don't count temporary freezes.

    FB: 12

The majority of permanently frozen accounts are frozen for being a shared or alternate account. This is something we actively investigate, and we appreciate players reporting suspicious accounts to us.

If you have any questions or comments about a frozen account, please direct them through Support as the Forums are not the place to discuss account freezes, because of the sensitive account information involved.

Support Report with your favorite burrowing nocturnal mammal and Answerpreneur, Aardvark!

    Happy Friday players!

We've been getting some messages from people who are frustrated with the way we've been handling some other player's accounts, so I thought I'd talk a bit about our processes and hopefully provide some transparency.

Essentially, the role of Support is to help players have the best experience they can by handling reports of possible problems, providing information. We do this with the goal of maintaining the long-term health of the game and player community. This means our focus is on helping people through problems, rather than on dispensing retribution for issues or Terms of Use violations.

Yes, we do apply penalties to accounts when we have found strong indications of rule-breaking. This is because the rules are there to benefit everyone and we believe it's important that there be clear consequences if a someone has chosen to break those rules.

However what those penalties might be can vary widely depending on the circumstances, and much of the time those penalties are not permanent. This is because we believe that while a lot of people act like buttheads from time to time, most are not inherently harmful and are willing to try not repeat their mistakes. We would much rather try to work with players to help them have a positive influence then banish them for having a negative one.

Not to say players are never banned, but actually putting an account down is something we try to leave as a last resort.

We do have a lovely selection of other penalties that are more frequently used, including temporary suspensions, suspensions from specific game features, and removal/replacement of inappropriate content. I have also petitioned for the development of some kind of lemony spray collar but they seem rather dubious about the idea.

The decision to apply a penalty is made only if an investigation by Kano/Apps staff has revealed strong evidence that the Terms of Use have been broken and the types of penalty applied can vary depending on a variety of factors including:
    • past history with player
    • type of issue
    • severity of issue
Penalties are not applied only because of reports alone, and the number of reports about a particular incident does not change the type of penalty applied.

Finally, we understand that we are not omniscient beings, and are often willing to take another look at players' cases if new information becomes available. If you feel a penalty was applied to your account unfairly, you can contact support with any information you feel might be helpful and we will take another look.

    Cheers,

    Aardvark

Are we any closer to getting Elite & Legendary upgrades???? It's really getting VERY frustrating not being able to do anything to get stronger!!! I have tons of inventory that I can't use & is going to waste!! By the time you get around to giving us the upgrades they will be totally useless too!!!

I don't think that we will have any new Elite & Legendary upgrades before a new location is out. If they keep pushing out a new location every 3 months, then only 2 months are left. That's my most optimistic estimation.

This is a licence to cheat. Thank you for being clear on this. The buttheads you speak of are using scripts and toolbars and two computers to level and counter and do things, that normal players cannot. Since you threw 3 players out of FB who did not spend money on the game, who were high level, the ones that do spend money carry on.

I wish this statement had been made 3 years ago.

    Its inspiration to cheats everywhere.

totally agree, Kel, and yesterdays announcement was and still is a very sad day for the honest players, for me it is a tremendous disappointment , to think I trusted Kano when they said they want to keep the games fair, We might as well be playing zynga games at this point, cause they don't care either. The cheats have won a hollow victory and the rest of us can kiss any hope of an honest game goodbye

I don't entirely agree with this statement. Even with the cheaters, I still enjoy the games (otherwise I still wouldn't be playing them after 3 years). I do agree that the cheats may have won a hollow victory, and it's sad that people feel the need to do so. When I run into them, I just ignore them, move on, and play my game. It is interesting to note that the only time that I have ever been banned from the game entirely was due to a cheater that reported me, so I must be doing something right.

Hi guys. I wrote up the Support Report to help give some transparency about the different kinds of penalties that can be applied to accounts, it's not an announcement of some new bolt-hole we've constructed.

As always, there are exceptions and some issues are dealt with more strictly than others, but trying to work with a players to change their behavior before kicking them out is not some new radical thing we are doing - this has always been our philosophy.

As far as cheating is concerned, NO it's not permitted, and YES we take it seriously. Addressing play systems that are unfair to other players is something we have been focused closely on over the past few months and I can say with absolute confidence that we are currently better than we ever have been at detecting and preventing these issues, and that we are taking more action against more players for this kind of thing than we ever have before.

We are also far from being finished- we understand that these kinds of issues are a something that require constant maintenance and improvement and will continue to work to get better.

If you guys are interested in helping, you can do so by tipping us off to new tools you come across, or by providing feedback about the types of things you see in the games you find frustrating and suggestions for improvements. While the pace of change can be slow (sorry! We find it frustrating too!), our games are meant to change and grow with our players' needs.

So what does the original post mean in relation to your second comment? Helping a person caught helping others to help themselves to levels at a inhuman rates, means to me a serious breach of TOU. What you did with the evidence (5000 attacks for wins in 45 mins, multiple times) is actually nothing as it carries on today. Some wizard at Kano Labs should try the exercise to click click attack attack 5000 times in a row v. some other wiz at Kano Labs and see how humans do it v. automations that it would appear you help people work with?

AFAIK, deeds speak. I prefer the TGIF version as its more honest.

Well the way I read it , it very much gives a Green light to cheating. The other problem I have is when someone does get caught, they keep everything that they have accumulated . Whether it be Levels, Coin, Drops, ect..... , this absolutely impacts my game. I reported someone for having an ungodly amount of attacks in the arena. Some would go as far as saying it was was Bot Like. This person not only kept their rewards and levels that they earned during the Arena, but they were also allowed to continue the game without a hiccup. While I was waiting for Kano to apparently do nothing with this matter, I heard someone had 120k attacks in PC. Whether Kano is becoming more proficient at catching the cheats or not. The bigger issue here is the total lack of Punishment that is handed out because of their fear in lost Revenue. I truly wish that I was able to compromise my Morals and Values so I too could repeatedly reap the benefits of cheating without the Fear of being banned from this game. Just remember Kano, it's like playing Monopoly with the one guy that keeps stealing money from the Bank. Eventually it is no longer fun to play.

I am not trying to defend the cheaters and usually I don't check how many attacks people do, but a large number of attacks can be done in arena by attacking people in defense mode. After the defenseless people are cleared out in 30-40 mins, instead of keep searching and waiting 2-4 hours until someones defense time expires, you can start attacking anyone in defense mode who gives you good enough XP and you don't loose to much health and at this time the Xp has some bonuses to. Instead of killing them with a few hundred attacks you can attack them over a thousand times as they receive only 5-7% of the normal damage. As usually at this time some two over leveled ones are jumping on me, I just go to defense mode and do something else.

Gazember, the person I reported was averaging 3.69 attacks per sec at 83 minutes into the arena. Tell me that is human. I can see maybe and just maybe doing that in a short burst for a bounty, but to average that over 83 minutes is not possible in my book with a legit mouse and a finger.

Depends on the mouse, but if it is hotlinking links and works on autofire then that is not allowed. Basically if your mouse is performing actions on your behalf that is automation.
